Transmissive pulse oximetry allows for non-invasive monitoring of the saturation rate for a patient's hemoglobin. A small sensor emits light of two different wavelengths through a thin portion of skin, typically a fingertip, earlobe or foot. By sensing the changes in the light, the sensor can determine the absorbances resulting from only the arterial blood.
